AB Volvo is a world-renowned Swedish manufacturer of trucks, buses, aerospace components and construction equipment. Headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, it was founded in 1927 by SKF as a roller ball bearing maker. The company’s name took inspiration from the Latin word “volvere”, meaning “I roll”. The Volvo logo was designed in the 1950s by Karl-Erik Forsberg, the celebrated Swedish calligrapher, graphic artist and typographer. It comprises of the pre-historic chemical mark of Iron, a circle with a diagonally upwards pointed arrow directing towards the right direction. This archaic insignia also symbolizes “Mars, the God of War”, and quite possibly, the gender symbol denoting “male”. The blue color in the Volvo logo depicts excellence and reliability of the brand, whereas the silver stands for its sophistication and creativity.
